A special moment shared between two Best Friends.
One of the first messages I received after Afrikaburn was from @stevehasacamera on Instagram. He sent me this photo and a heart-touching story.
"This was one of the most beautiful moments of the burn for me. Thank you for your gift." @stevehasacamera
Steve continued to share a little bit more with me, but this is one of those stories of friendship that is so intimate and real, and deeply inter-woven with life, that you can't just share it with the whole world. I'll try tell Steve's story as best I can.
Steve has a Best Friend too, one that is very close to him. A friend that he cares for so much that he whisked her away from the default world to Afrikaburn when she needed it most.
The thing about Afrikaburn though is that in the vastness of the open expanses of the desert you will be faced with your deepest self. Whatever you are dealing with in the default world will come with you. There was a lot for Steve's friend to unpack and process. For Steve, being a Best Friend became his most important role for a while.
One beautiful night they spent some time sitting high on Best Friends, contemplating. Then, as he placed his hands on her heart, he told her everything will be ok, and for the first time in a long time, she believed it. This was when a personal breakthrough came for her, and for him.
How in the magical name of Afrikaburn did someone walk by at that very moment and capture an image of it? That's the magical nature of the burn.
Friendships come in many shapes and forms and the Best Friends artwork celebrated this.
Thank you for sharing your story with me, Steve.
Thank you so much for sharing. I hope your art continues to impact those around more than you know, and I’m grateful that your story has helped inspire this amazing gift @stevehasacamera
